In the book, I describe half a dozen events that fanned the flames of Egyptomania. Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign started the ball rolling, but the Opening of the Suez Canal, an obelisk being transported to New York, and the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb have everyone wild for anything Egyptian. An immense reservoir of art history, Cairo's Museum of Egyptian Antiquities contains fabulous collections of relics from the Mediterranean's most mysterious and ancient civilization, the true cradle of western culture. From the creation of the first state on the banks of the Nile to its submission to the Roman empire, the millennial story of ancient Egypt is recounted here .

Symbols of Egyptian Gods. Many ancient Egyptian gods had symbols which meant different things. As an example there was the Ankh symbol which meant eternal life. There was a pillar-like symbol which was called a Djed and it was seen in hieroglyphics and meant stability. You’ll see these in many pictures of Egyptian gods. The compilation of this guide began in Spring as a series of check lists and book requests for the somewhat small collection of Egyptological and related works in M. H. Sterne library at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The god of the sun, Ra was the first pharaoh of the world, back in the days when gods inhabited Egypt. Each day, Ra’s golden sun ship would sail across the sky, and each night it would travel through the underground world of the Duat, sailing the River of Missing: Egyptian galleries. -Collier, To Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs-Davies,_Catalogue Of The British Museum-Dictionary of Ancient Egypt-Drews, End Of The Bronze ry -Egypt, the Aegean and the Levant-Egyptian Medicine-Egyptian Metalworking-Egyptian Models-Egyptian Towns And Cities-Egyptian Warfare And Weapons -Egyptian Woodworking.
